ALL UK PARCELS SENT TRACKED! ALL OVERSEAS PARCELS SENT AIRMAIL, TRACKED! (S/hand, Hardcover, 1953). 1953 1st edition. Small 8vo (119 x 180mm). Pp160. B/w photographs & illustrations. Dark maroon cloth, spine titled in gilt. Ex-library copy. Attempted excision of plate to rear end-papers. With a Preface by Maurice Wiggin and an I…ntroduction by H.R. Whates. This is a detailed look at the author's experiments with spinners, plugs and other lures, particularly his "spandle" lures made from spoons and toothbrush handles. Much of this material first appeared in the Birmingham Mail, The Angler, the Montgomeryshire Express and the Shropshire Magazine. Thurlow Craig also wrote novels and non-fiction based on his experiences as a cowboy in South America between the wars, and later, for many years, he wrote a countryside column in the Sunday Express newspaper. He wrote two other books in series with this one, Spinner's Delight and Shooter's Delight. He was one of Rickards and Bannister's Ten Greatest Pike Anglers, described by them as "almost certainly the father of modern lure fishing." Chapters include: The Anglers' Co-operative Association; The cost, the wherefore and the why; Spoons, etc; Spandles; Bait-assembly kit; Wooden spinning lures; Wooden plugs; Small lures; The last five. .

paperback. Condición: Good. Our good condition books are generally good for reading but not for gifting or collecting. They could have imperfections such as creasing, fanning, inscriptions, margin notes, yellowing, staining on edge or cover or pages, bumps, scuffs, etc etc (sometimes multiple of these). It's a wide category that… encompasses anything that isn't almost-new down to anything that is slightly better than poor. We would NOT recommend gifting Good books - these should be considered reading copies. Our books are dispatched from a Yorkshire former cotton mill. We list via barcode/ISBN so please note that the images are stock images and may not be the exact copy you receive, furthermore the details about edition and year might not be accurate as many publishers reuse the same ISBN for multiple editions and as we simply scan a barcode or enter an ISBN we do not check the validity of the edition data when listing. If you're looking for an exact edition please don't order (at least not without checking with us first, although we don't always have time to check). We aim to dispatch prompty, the service used will depend on order value and book size. We can ship to most countries, see our shipping policies. Payment is via Abe only.

Condición: new. ALL UK PARCELS SENT TRACKED! ALL OVERSEAS PARCELS SENT AIRMAIL, TRACKED! (S/hand, Hardcover, 1952). 1952 1st edition. Small 8vo (125 x 189mm). Pp255. B/w photographs and illustrations. Blue cloth, spine titled in gilt. Edges slightly foxed. Good-plus in torn dust-wrapper. Relevant pencil notes to front end-paper.… "In this book the author draws on experience reaching back to 1914 when, at the age of thirteen, he was given his first .22 rifle. It deals with shooting in this country and South America, always from the angle of the man who loads his own cartridges and effects as many of his own repairs as possible. As he points out, there was a period when the home-loading of ball or shotgun cartridges was looked upon as an unnecessary waste of time, in the days when good cartridges were cheap and plentiful, but today, when they are neither cheap nor as plentiful as we should like, there appears to be a considerable increase in the number of shooters who are thinking seriously about saving their used cases and reloading them. All the necessary instructions to do so will be found in this book, together with hitherto unpublished information about the new British powders that are now being made available to home-loaders." Chapters include: Part One - Yesterday and Today: War!; First right and left; Pistols for two; Wildfowl; Muzzle loader v. repeater; The cougar; Hunting with Indians in the Chaco; An occurence on the Rio Apa; Thoughts on the handgun; Muzzle-loading rifles and guns; A long-departed sportsman. Part Two - Mechanics of shotgun shooting: Shooting today; Choosing gun - its gauge and fit; Care and maintenance; Accidents due to ignorance and carelessness; Accidents due to mechanical causes; Powder and shot; Reloading shot cartridges; The wadless crimp. Part Three - In the Field: On the safe and mannerly handling of guns; Hints on hitting; Pest control (1) general; Pest control (2) rabbits and pigeons; Game on a rough shoot - 2 chapters; How to find cheap shooting. .
