Añadir al carritoHardcover. Original Edition, not a reprint. Textured brown cloth/boards; gilt lettering on spine. 364 pp. with no illustrations. No dust jacket, as issued. In 1825, a group of artists and architects including Thomas Cole, Rembrandt Peale, Ithiel Town, Samuel F. B. Morse, Asher B. Durand, and others formed what would soon become…the National Academy. Modeled after the Royal Academy in London, the National Academy was founded with the simple yet powerful mission to "promote the fine arts in America through instruction and exhibition." (from the Academy's web site) The New York Drawing Association was formed in the autumn of 1825. This is the history of the first 40 years of both organizations. Good+ bumps to corners, some rubbing to covers, and fading to spine. Additionally, cloth at head of spine has been re-glued (one copy is not glued and has chipping at both spine ends) and the very bottom half inch of spine cloth is missing. The front board is loosening a bit. The inner hinge is broken. end papers are mildly foxed; pages are lightly age-toned, as expected. Some page edges show wear.

Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Very Good. First edition. Tall octavo. 364pp. Publisher's diagonal dot-and-ribbon purple cloth (Krupp, Ban5) ruled and with a monogram ("TSC," almost certainly the author's) in blind on both boards. Front hinge neatly strengthened, lightly sunned spine with loss at the ends and a split on the rear shoulder,… corners a bit worn, very good and sound. Inscribed by the author on the front fly: "J.R. Arnolds, Esq., With the respectful regards of the Author / [William-----?], [Sep?] 1869." An important and early history of the National Academy of Design and New-York Drawing Association by an artist and Academy co-founder. Uncommon, especially a presentation copy in the author's monogrammed binding.
