Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: new. Paperback. Co-operation among western European states in the period after World War II has followed two paths. A traditional intergovernmental path demanding no transfer of formal national sovereignty and the integration path aiming at creating "an ever closer union" (as stated in the EEC treaty of 1957) involving formal surrender of state power to common European institutions. This book traces the ramifications of early post-war western European co-operation and integration in an attempt to explain the motives regulating the choice between the alternatives. Within this general framework a substantial part of the contributions deals with the European dilemmas of Denmark; a renowned Euro-sceptic, who during this early post-war period took a more active and serious interest in the Franco-German-Benelux integration initiatives that is generally recognised. Co-operation among western European states in the period after World War II has followed two paths. A traditional intergovernmental path and the integration path. This book traces the ramifications of early post-war western European co-operation and integration in an attempt to explain the motives regulating the choice between the alternatives. Añadir al carritoSoftcover. Condición: Near Fine. First Edition. Thorsten Borring Olesen Helge O. Pharo Kristian Paaskesen have edited a fine reader of the historical and social scientific aspects of development "aid" but that isn't, all too often. Sterling condition softcover copy, with unfurled tips, tight binding, and clean internals, showing only very slight shelf- and edge-wear. Contributions by the three editors and by Kristine Midtgaard, David R. Morris and Kevin O'Sullivan and many others. From the publisher's blurb, "Since 1970, 0.7% of gross national income (GNI) as the norm for Official Development Assistance has been universally accepted by the United Nations and the rich donor nations of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development. This book is a comparative and historical analysis of the degree to which aid transfers have conformed to the UN aid norms. Through detailed national studies based on archival materials, as well as current debates in the press and in parliaments, the book discusses why only a small number of countries have lived up to the norm; in other words, why some countries have been striving for the "Glory of the Saint," while most have continued to sin. The book's contributions provide a nuanced view of the nexus between international norms and pressures, domestic welfare, and political systems and donor behavior, and on whether states give aid for reasons of altruism or realpolitik. As the studies show, aid giving was generally moved by both concerns, but often in very complex ways. One key interpretation is that national foreign policy legacies, orientations, and priorities constitute the crucial focal point for understanding how domestic and international impulses have influenced and shaped levels of aid giving." Volume contains scholarly apparatus in the form of, e.g., notes, index, and bibliography. [8], 9-403 pp.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. Additional postage may be required for oversize or especially heavy volumes, and for sets.

Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: new. Hardcover. A history of Denmark depicts how Denmark, the Danish kingdom and the Danish state have developed and changed over more than a thousand years. In each of the book's nine chapters, researchers from Aarhus University focus on Denmark's political, cultural, social and international conditions. The authors describe the shift from the first joint Danish kings in the Viking Age and the medieval trinity of church, king and aristocracy over the arbitrariness of autocracy to today's democracy with a global outlook. They shed light on the ravages of plague epidemics, the social changes of the Reformation as well as the economic crisis in the interwar period, the accession to the EU and the increased military involvement in foreign conflict zones. It is a Danish story about the transformation from status and class society to welfare state, from peasant country to post-industrial society and from chroniclers to influencers. Based on the latest research, A Danish History provides a systematic presentation of Denmark's history.
