Illustrated Card Covers. Condición: Fine. No Jacket. 1st Edition. A 48p privately printed album of 19th century photographs of Moidart and Arisaig taken by Christian Cameron of Inverailort (1859-1941) with a foreword by Donald Cameron of Lochiel, 27th Chief of Clan Cameron. Christian Cameron was the grand daughter of Maj-Gen Sir Alexander Cameron KCB, one of the Duke of Wellington's most distinguished soldiers. When he retired, seriously wounded in the neck by a bullet from Waterloo, he bought the wild and romantic Inverailort Estate (known as 'Clanranald's Deer Forest') on the world famous Road to the Isles in the Western Highlands of Scotland. She entertained on a grand scale, bred and promoted West Highland Terriers and Norwegian Elk Hounds at Crufts and captured it all through the lens of her whole-plate, field camera making her one of the earliest woman photographers to work on the West Coast of Scotland. Her photographs, mostly taken in the 1880s-90s and published here for the first time, not only record a way of life long since gone but are technically brilliant, beautifully composed and considerable works of art. Forty-seven of them are included in this book. Clean and unmarked. See Scans.…
