Speakman deplores the attitudes of the Orthodox party, suggesting that the trouble should have been settled by dividing the church property and parting in peace. A contemporaneous review of the book commented, 'According to the reader's creed will rank his opinion of the worth of the book, which certainly is a mournful illustration of the injury that a sectarian spirit inflicts.

Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book presents an analysis of the state of affairs in Quaker communities in the 19th century, shedding light on the reasons behind their decline in membership and religious fervor. The author, an active member of the Quaker community, delves into the historical and social context of the time to explore why Quakers had become so disconnected from their core principles. Drawing upon external perspectives, the author dissects the dogmatic adherence to traditional rituals and practices, arguing that they have hindered the Society of Friends from adapting to the changing world. They critique the excessive reliance on elderly members and the undue emphasis on outward conformity over inward spiritual growth. The book delves into the consequences of these factors, such as the lifelessness of religious meetings and the exclusion of younger generations. Ultimately, this book serves as a call for reformation within Quakerism, urging members to rediscover the essence of their beliefs and to embrace a more inclusive, dynamic, and spiritually fulfilling approach to their faith. Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book presents a unique method for determining longitude and latitude without using traditional instruments like a transit or chronometer. The author, an experienced navigator, challenges the accuracy of existing methods and offers a practical alternative based on the daily and semi-annual movement of the sun. The book highlights the flaws in the use of longitudinal lines on globes and maps, arguing that they are incorrectly drawn and fail to account for the true shape of the earth. The author proposes a new system that places the base longitudinal polar line at Washington, D.C., and draws longitudinal lines parallel to it, while drawing latitudinal lines parallel to the equator. The author also explores the concepts of time and distance, explaining the relationship between minutes and miles. The book provides clear and concise instructions for using the author's method to determine longitude and latitude, making it accessible to both experienced navigators and those new to the subject. Overall, this book offers a valuable and innovative approach to navigation, particularly for those interested in exploring the relationship between astronomy and geography. By challenging traditional methods and providing a practical alternative, the author contributes to the ongoing study and understanding of our planet's vast landscapes. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the schism that occurred among the Quakers in 1827. The author presents a balanced account of the theological differences that led to the separation, providing historical context and exploring the impact of the division on the Quaker community. Through examining the contrasting actions and beliefs of the two groups that emerged, the book sheds light on the fundamental principles of Quakerism and the tension between orthodoxy and progressive thought within the society. The author argues that the original Quaker faith, focused on the universality of the divine light within every individual, has been compromised by Orthodox Friends' emphasis on theological dogma. This book offers valuable insights into the nature of religious schism, the importance of tolerance, and the ongoing evolution of religious beliefs.
