Successful lawyer and deputy clerk for King George County, Hunter began his literary career with poetic contributions to magazines and newspapers such as Lippincott's Monthly Magazine and The Saturday Evening Post. This volume compiles a range of his works, later followed by Poems in 1947. Consequently, Hunter was made Virginia's Poet Laureate for the year of 1948.This copy was sourced from the collection of Peter Dzwonkoski, director of Rare Books and Special Collections at the University of Rochester's Rush Rhees Library. Publisher's original hardback. Presentation copy. Signed by the author with an inscription facing the title page, dated May 12, 1931. Externally, smart with only slight bumping and the odd mark but featuring a visible chip to the bottom corner of the rear board and spine. Internally, firmly bound.
