Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Good. First edition thus. Wood engravings by Frank Martin. Small 8vo. Publisher's cream boards, gilt and blue lettered, a bit foxed to extremities, and a little mild foxing internally, though mostly clean, original glassine wrapper, this rather chipped and with a couple of tape repairs, good only, held in a plastic sleeve; "much of Susanna Whatman's Housekeeping Book was written in 1776 during the first year of her marriage to James Whatman, the papermaker. As Mistress of Turkey Court in Kent, Mrs. Whatman wrote down detailed household instructions for her servants, adding to them wherever necessary throughout the following twenty-four years. The Housekeeping Book, which is now published for the first time, gives a fascinating picture of life 'below stairs' in one of the great eighteenth-century houses.". Frank Martin (ilustrador).
