Mit Cosima Wagners (1837-1930) ältester Tochter Daniela von Bülow (1860-1940) in erster Ehe verheiratet, bildeten er und seine Gattin in Heidelberg das Zentrum eines Kreises von Wagnerianern, der u. a. zum dem um Stefan George Kontakt unterhielt.
