Añadir al carritoPatric Dickinson has not received his due. A self-styled 'poet and impresario of poetry', Dickinson occupied a central position in the cultural landscape of post-war Britain. As an editor and broadcaster he worked with poets such as Dylan Thomas, Cecil Day Lewis and Roy Campbell, actresses Flora Robson, Peggy Ashcroft and Jill Balcon, and actors Robert Donat, Ralph Richardson, John Gielgud. See his 1965 autobiography 'The Good Minute' and John Mole's obituary in the Independent, 31 January 1994. From the papers of Dickinson's mistress Sarah Emmeline Hamilton. (His extraordinary correspondence with her, including 171 original and mostly-unpublished poems, 474 autograph letters and 349 post cards, is offered separately). The present item is 4to, and consists of 18 unpaginated pages over twelve leaves. Stitched into green wraps printed in black. Title-page with dragon device in red, otherwise in black. Tastefully printed. In fair condition, lightly aged and worn. Dickinson has added the surname 'Clark' in pencil beside the name 'Jane' of the dedicatee. Not overly common: apart from the deposit libraries the only copies on JISC at Leeds and UCL.

Añadir al carrito1p, 12mo. In fair condition, lightly aged and creased. Folded once. The salutation 'Dear B. J.' and valediction 'Yours | Jack' are in Priestley's autograph; the rest is typed. Maire Lynd's letter was 'a delight surprise', Priestley being unaware that her son was 'in the film business'. He continues: 'There is probably a good book to be written about your parents and their circle, with extracts from your mother's autobiography, but I must confess I do not know who would write it - unless you and Sheila [her sister] did it between you.' In Priestley's view some of Robert Lynd's 'best pieces are in SOLOMON IN ALL HIS GLORY'. He does not know 'if there is anything useful for you in my critical essay on him'.

Añadir al carritoBoth in good condition, on aged paper. ONE: 2pp., 4to. He reminds Macqueen-Pope that two years previously he was 'kind enough to receive me at your Office and, after a long and most interesting chat on things theatrical (over an hour, as I recall!) you wrote into my copies of your "Drury Lane" and "Carriages at Eleven" two very greatly appreciated inscriptions, by way of friendship'. He now has his 'delightful "Gaiety" and splendid 'Haymarket", and asks for 'another pow-wow' at 359 Strand. The recipient's 'Gaiety' has sent him 'rummaging through my old programmes (to stick inside the covers) - and, to my horror, I discovered that my acquaintance with theh Old Gaiety commenced 50 years ago next July with Teddy Payne & dear old Connie Ediss (bless her memory) in "The Messenger Boy". Ye gods! I feel almost a centenarian, thanks to that programme!!' He also discusses the 'Haymarket' book, Samuel Foote, and his own activities: 'I have an immense collection of Historic Singers' Records from which I sometimes broadcast over the air - & I write Articles on these great Artists for sundry little magazines here & in America, on occasion.' A postscript concerns 'Gordon Whelan (Albert's son) - a very old pal of mine, who you, too, know'. TWO: 1p., 8vo. He thanks him for making an arrangement to meet: 'I very much look forward to another chat on those days you and I knew so well - great times that have, alas, gone for ever'. There is a postscript on Macqueen-Pope's '"Gaiety" do at the Dorchester'.

Añadir al carrito1p., 8vo. Photocopied in black on light-green paper. In fair condition, creased and lightly-aged. Small photograph of Paul Harvey beside the title, above the following introduction: 'In a recent column Mr. Harvey, a noted commentator and journalist, strongly defended the law enforcement officer. With his permission the Bulletin reprints this message which we think will be of interest to our readers.' Harvey's piece, reproduced over three columns, begins: 'Don't credit me with this mongrel prose; it has many parents; at least 420,000 of them: Policemen. | A policeman is a composite of what all men are, a mingling of saint and sinner, dust and deity.' Harvey, whose father was a policeman murdered when he was two years old, and who counted J. Edgar Hoover among his friends, wrote this piece at least as early as 1963. Scarce: no copy of any printing of this item on OCLC WorldCat.
