Soft cover. Condición: VG+. No Jacket. 1st. Wellington became the capital and seat of the colonial government for NZ in 1865. In 1907 the country became a fully-governing dominion. These two dates set the time parameters for Terence Hodgson's excellent pictorial coverage of the growth and progress of the capital between those years, with a short extension to 1910. He selected the photographs, more than 130, and provided the informative text for the five sections, which cover the beginnings of commerce, capital city, the public good, patterns of settlement and rich and poor. The illustrations come from a number of sources and are accompanied by extended captions. A fascinating visual and written history of old Wellington. First edition of 1990, 182 pages including double page map locating key buildings and index, b/w photos throughout, blue tinted panoramic photo e/papers. Pictorial card covers VG+ with slight sunning at spine area, internally excellent, no inscriptions. Photos, Map (ilustrador).…

Interior and associated relevant photographs illustrated this section., Section two features 36 "grand" residences, mainly constructed up to about 1910. Each is illustrated with one or more photographs with details on the facing page. Fortunately a number of thise classic homes remain. some as museums others still serving useful purposes. These are listed alphabetically by house name. Floor plans (two fold out) for six of the homes are located at the back. A flash-back in grandeur and nostalgia.
