Il fut également édité chez le libraire De Mat à Bruxelles. Barbier, dans son classique "Dictionnaire des Ouvrages anonymes", (Paris 1879) écrit au sujet de ce livre: " Attribué par Quérard, dans la "France littéraire", à René Bourgeois, et dans les "Supercheries littéraires dévoilées" tome III (1870) à F.-Th. Delbare." Henry Houssaye croit qu'il s'agit de Bourgeois, qui aurait été chirurgien attaché à un régiment de cuirassiers. Navez penche pour Delbare. Jean Tulard, dans sa "Bibliographie des Mémoires sur le Consulat et l'Empire", écrit : "Ce dernier ouvrage a été également attribué à Th. Delbare, mais il semble bien de Bourgeois. On y retrouve le même style -modeste- du soldat sur la chute de l'Empire." Commentaire étonnant, car il s'agit de tout autre chose que du témoignage modeste du soldat. ouvrage, d'un grand intérêt pour l'histoire de Waterloo, mérite une analyse plus approfondie. Il me semble qu'il pourrait bien s'agir de la production de plusieurs auteurs, et à mon avis, ils sont d'un grade plus élevé qu'un simple chirurgien de cuirassiers. Les critiques à l'encontre de Napoléon qui se trouvent dans l'ouvrage ressemblent fort à celles de Kellerman, de Baudus, ou du général anonyme qui avait envoyé un rapport à Davout le 20 juin. Tout les détails sont confirmés par d'autres témoignages, et l'impression qui ressort à la lecture de ce texte est qu'il s'agit bien d'un témoignage authentique d'un (ou de plusieurs) militaire(s) de haut grade, encore sous le coup d'une violente indignation suite au désastre dû (selon lui ou eux) au despotisme de Napoléon.
