Also laid in is some later order and pricing info from John Hass, Bettendorf, Iowa. 190 pp plus 2 pp adv, 16 fine full page chromolithographic plates with guards by Harrison Weir, 22 wood engraving. Publisher's green cloth with gilt scene of two pigeons on the front cover, beveled edges to cloth, all page edges gilt. The scarce first edition with the date of 1868 appearing on the title page. Foxing to the first few pages of the frontis matter including the frontis plate, as well as the last few pages and plate. Hinges cracked with some skewed pages that are hanging on. All pages present. Wear at corners with fraying and wear and head and tail of spine. The text and plates are generally bright and clean. Photo on request. PayPal accepted please inquire.

Hardcover no dust jacket. Contemporary binding of half black morocco leather over grey boards with gilt titles and designs to spine in good condition with some rubbing to all edges of spine and tips of boards and some marking and scratches to boards. Inside a little foxing to end papers and the odd spot throughout. The frontis and plate 16 both some have some foxing and a little foxing to border of plate 7, otherwise all plates in very good clean and bright condition. William Bernhard Tegetmeier, a correspondent and friend of Charles Darwin, was an English naturalist, a founding member of the Savage Club and a popular writer and journalist of domestic science. Tegetmeier helped Darwin acquire much of the material for his practical work, providing information and specimens. A nice copy of a scarce first edition.
