First UK hardcover edition, first printing. Publisher's original purple boards, with titles printed in white and in black on a library-style sleeve inlaid to the upper board, and in white grey and black to the spine. Marbled endpapers. Boldly designed by Suzanne Dean, with various colour illustrations, line-drawn diagrams, marbled papers and typography fragments throughout the text. A near fine copy, the binding square and firm, bright and fresh, with some rubbing to the extreme bottom edge and extremities, and a little gum residue to the upper rear spine joint, head of the spine and upper board. The contents are clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. An illustrated children's novella. The story first appeared in print in Murakami's 1983 collection 'Kangaroo-biyori' ('A Perfect Day for Kangaroos'), published in Japan by Heibonsha. This first English edition was released simultaneously in the US by Alfred A. Knopf. Further details and images for any of the items listed are available on request.
