Second printing. Indians, cowboys, bad men, traders, homesteaders, scouts, trappers, soldiers, pioneers and gold-seekers march in an almost endless procession across the pages of this book. Their stories have been told by the men who knew them best - Bret Harte, Mark Twain, "Buffalo Bill", Hamlin Garland, George Bird Grinnell, a…nd many others. There are many stories; Cowboy ballads, poems, biographical sketches and articles of a practical nature. Over 500 pp. brimming with vivid action and glorious adventure, and dealing with the most glamorous period in America's history. A tight, clean, beautiful copy. Only a little evidence of damp stain that may have affected the jacket and cover in the bottom right front corner. Looks like a few small white marks on cover and is not even visible on the jacket. Very good dust jacket with one inch and a half closed tear on back panel. Thick 4to. 9-3/4 x 7-3/4. Pictorial brown cloth stamped in gold orange and sky blue. Beautiful, pictorial endpapers printed in orange and brown. 12 illustrations in full color by Frank E. Schoonover, Manning DeV. Lee, Charles Hargens and Richard H. Rogers. (ilustrador).

Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. No Jacket. This 7.50 x 10.00, 512 page book is a colorful and profusely decorated example of 1920's book design. The front cover of brown cloth is decorated with a gold, orange, and blue illustration of frontier imagery and the title lettering is in gilt. The spine title is also in gold with a sh…ield denoting the romance of America's History. The born cloth cover itself is in very good or better condition with some edge wear but the corners are still intact. There is a strip of whitish offset to the back cloth cover from some unknown material. The interior is colorful with the end papers showing a action scene from the old west, indians attacking a stagecoach. There is a one-and-a-half by four inch piece of paper glued to the ffep with penciled notation that this book once belonged to John Brewer in his private library. The interior text really has no condition issues to mention, the twelve full color plates are all present and are done by several period artists. There are numerous black-and-white etchings and decorations throughout. Overall this book is a very nice read featuring short stories by many authors including a number of very well-known writers. 512 pages.
