Stutterheim war von 1922 bis 1932 England-Korrespondent für das "Berliner Tageblatt". Nach einem kurzen Aufenthalt in Rom war er wieder als Journalist in London tätig. Seine Darstellung Englands weicht wohltuend von der in Nazi-Deutschland auch schon vor Ausbruch des Krieges üblichen antibritischen Propaganda ab.
