In May, 1864, two units of the Ohio National Guard were called into service, meeting at Xenia, Ohio. They were removed to Camp Dennison, Ohio and designated as the 154th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, under the command of Colonel Robert Stevenson. Joseph Stipp was a member of Company B. At the reunion in Xenia, in 1895, he presented a paper, which, at the insistence of his comrades, was published in 1896. As Stipp says in the preface, it is a recital of incidents, experiences and recollections, together with facts and data compiled from the Official Records. It includes a complete roster of the officers and men of the ten companies.
