Paperback octavo (with flaps), very good plus condition, single-colour drawings, minimal edgewear. 118 pp. This memoir was written on Norfolk Island in 1842 by convict James Porter, who was sent to the Island prison from Van Diemens Land after a sentence of death (later set aside) which was incurred for the piracy of the ship Frederick from Macquarie Harbour in 1834 (ten escaped convicts sailed the ship to Chile). This story is about the mastermind of the Frederick mutineers, scallywag and swashbuckling romancer James (Jimmy) Porter, whose desire for freedom takes him around the world. Prepared for publication by Richard Innes Davey, from a manuscript in the Dixson Library, State Library of NSW, Sydney. Afterword by Hamish Maxwell-Stewart.
