One black-and-white illustrated portrait of Stephen Hall Meek, complete. "Printed by Grant Dahlstrom at the Castle Press, Pasadena, California." A small, gilt sticker from a former owner, "Pauline R. More," is tipped in on back pastedown. Covers are very clean and intact except for a horizontal line running the width of the front cover about halfway down. Pages are intact but have faint dampstaining throughout. Pages also have a smell like a citrus-scented solvent. A Near Fine copy. Autobiography of "the oldest pioneer," Stephen Hall Meek (1807-1889), a fur trapper, prospector, and wagon train guide. He was the brother of another pioneer and mountain man, Joseph Meek (1810-1875), who later became a politician in Oregon Country and Oregon Territory. Meeks Cutoff in northeastern Oregon is named after Stephen.
