M., Assistant State Librarian and Archivist. Front cover has some shelf wear and back cover is missing. 124 pages of very interesting information about each county in Tennessee. I have paternal ancestors who go back to Lawrence County and I found this 1923 about that county VERY interesting. (BR) Shelf 316.

Part II ( 392 pp ) "Contains the Titles of the Printed Official Documents of the State, 1861-1939, and the documents (printed and manuscripts) preceding and relating to the erection of the State. Included in this group are the printed documents of the 'Restored Government of Virginia." The covers have faded along the spine and edges but this copy is in exceptional condition - no tears, no dog ears; and although dated, it is still a great starting point for anyone researching West Virginia.

4to. 2 pp. To a French general in St. Petersburg, recommending his brother-in law, the diplomat François Le Lorgne d'Ideville (1780-1852), who, after studying German in Dresden for three years, now intends to go to St. Petersburg to learn Russian, expecting there to achieve a position as translator for the French government: "Le jeune Lelorgne, mon beau frère, après avoir étudié trois ans la langue allemande à Dresde, se rend à St. Petersbourg, pour y apprendre le Russe. L'expectative d'un emploi d'interprête dans les Bureaux du Gouvernement soutient son rôle dans l'étude des langues du nord [.]". - Having informed him of Le Lorgne's intentions, he hopes to gain the general's good will for the same, mentioning that his portfolio is a little short of recommendations, but the two French ministers who oversaw Le Lorgne's stay in Dresden wish to send him to Russia nonetheless, emphasizing that he deserves the general's protection and hoping he will be as happy in St. Petersburg as he was in Dresden: "Il convenait, Général, que vous fussiez d'abord informé du motif qui amene ce jeune étudiant dans votre résidence, après avoir satisfait à ce devoir, permettez moi de solliciter vos bontés pour lui. Son portefeuille n'est pas chargé de recommendations; mais les deux Ministres de la République, sous les yeux des quels il a [.] vécu à Dresde, veulent bien vous l'adresser, et c'est d'ailleurs par sa propre conduite qu'il désire mériter votre bienveillante protection.
