Condición: New. SB 56 pp Illustrated with 11 plates 2019 N&MP Reprint of 1935 Original Edition R. T. Stanyforth may not be a celebrated name in cricket, but he deserves to be remembered. Born in 1892, the Yorkshireman was the only man to captain England without previously playing county cricket. A wicket-keeper who played mainly for the Army, he unexpectedly led England on the 1927-28 South African tour, appearing in four Tests and earning praise as a capable captain and popular personality. He later played briefly for Yorkshire and toured the West Indies in 1929 before injury ended his playing career. A Lieutenant-Colonel and MCC trustee, Stanyforth remained closely associated with cricket until his death. Book.…

Stanyforth, a wicket-keeper, captained England against South Africa in 1927-28, and he won two, lost one and drew once. He also played for the Free Foresters from 1930 to 1933. Stanyforth served in the 21st Lancers, as Aide-de-camp to General Alan Brooke 1939-1940, and as GSO1 21st Army Group 1941-1945. Stanyforth died at Kirk Hammerton, Yorkshire, in February 1964, aged 72. He was a trustee of the MCC at the time of his death, and the author of Wicketkeeping, published in 1935. Ref XX 2.…
