De 13e-eeuwse auteur heeft immers de vrij korte en nogal droge, oorspronkelijke Latijnse vita van de heilige Lutgard (1182-1246) omgewerkt tot een omvangrijk en zeer levendig heiligenleven in de volkstaal, en dat in zuiver jambische verzen.
