The Martí printing and bookshop business began in 1700, when Joan Pau Martí, her husband, acquired the printing press from Sebastià de Cormellas , whose family, in turn, had bought the Humbert Gotart printing press in 1591. The Joan Pau's widow, Maria, runs the workshop between 1723-1737. The theme of the published books is fundamentally religious. The most splendid period of the Impremta Martí corresponds to the one run by the widow of her son Maur, Maria Àngela (1754-1770), helped by the master printer, Antoni Rovira. Despite continuing to publish religious books, of which she published 130 titles, Maria Àngela printed the exemplary Novels of María de Zayas (1764) and cookbooks such as Francisco Martínez Montiño, Arte de cocina, pasteleria, vizcocheria y conservaria(1763). The printing house was renamed Oliver Martí when Ignàsia, daughter of Maria Àngela i Maur, married the Barcelona bookseller Francesc Oliver; and changes its name again when a granddaughter of Maria Àngela, daughter of the Oliver Martí marriage, marries the Zaragoza bookseller Valerio Sierra. With the name Sierra i Martí, the printing press and bookshop remained active until the first third of the 19th century . The Reserve Library of the University of Barcelona preserves more than 150 works published by Maria Àngela Martí as well as several examples of her printer marks, which she identified throughout her professional career.
