Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book is a seminal text in the study of English ecclesiastical architecture. The author's insightful and thorough examination of the subject has made it a key point of reference since its initial publication. This volume is a deeply contextual study that traces the development of ecclesiastical architecture in England, from the 11th to the 16th century. At the heart of the book is a brilliant analysis of the transformative effect that the middle age's greatest minds had on monumental church design in England. The author innovatively explores the medieval church as a physical representation of the vision of a heavenly city, and through this lens, the evolution of architectural forms is presented as an expression of not only practical but also symbolic and theological concerns.
