Soft cover. Condición: Very Good -. Second Edition. Intact, but disbound from a larger collection. This copy belonged to the Unitarian minister, Rev. Joseph Tuckerman and was given to him by Mr. E. J. Reid of London, dated July 8th, 1837 - as inscribed on the top of the title page. A 54 page publication on the early 19th century Church of Scotland and its turmoil over the question of lay patronage and its implications regarding civil authority over the church. The upheaval in the Church prompted numerous writings and treatises, of which this is one. Book.

Most pages are clean with tight binding but the title page and frontispiece image has heavy foxing. The lettering on the spine has been carved deeper with pen and the front board looks to be reattached with an old method (very secure now and blends well). Gorgeous and bright gilt fore-edge.
