Formed in London in 1976 The Clash was one of the most successful bands from Punks first wave in the 1970s, early Clash gigs were notoriously violent establishing them as a leading voice of Punk Rock. Clash members were vocalist Joe Strummer, guitarist Mick Jones, bass player Paul Simonon and drummer Topper Headon. Artist Pennie Smith (b. 1949) is one of the United Kingdoms most acclaimed rock photographers.
