Añadir al carritoA Bound copy of The Charters of The Corporation of The London Assurance, with sections ceremonially sewn shut with ribbon, and each with attached folded documents, dated between 22nd and 30th July 1920, signed variously by: Public Notary, Henry Woodbridge; Lord High Chancellor of Great Britain, Lord Birkenhead; and Clerk of the…Parliaments, Sir Alfred Theodore Thring, KCB. The latter has initialled at points and added a signed and dated manuscript confirmation of authenticity to the bottom of an original copy of the London Assurance Act, 1891, which is also folded and sewn into the book. The book itself is bound in dark maroon cloth covered boards, lettered in gilt, the cloth is slightly marked and rubbed and the extremities are bumped. The added documents have strained the text block, causing cracking at the gutters and at points throughout. The documents and the text block are marked and toned to varying degrees, with some creasing. From the archives of the RSA Insurance Group with their barcode strip to the front pastedown. An intriguing volume and series of documents, from a date which marks the Bicentennial of the London Assurance Corporation's formation, invoking the 1891 Act, presumably formally authorising the Company's significant post-WW1 overseas expansion, and perhaps also the construction of the new London Assurance Building at 1, King William Street, which was built between 1921 and 1922, and occupied shortly afterwards.
