Añadir al carritoSoft cover. Condición: Very Good. No Jacket. THE TWO TEETH SITE (Publications in Salvage Archeology No. 8), Carlyle S. Smith and Alfred E. Johnson, softcover, illustrated with photos, tables, drawings, and maps, 1968. BOOK CONDITION: very good. The text block and illustrations are in fine condition with no tears, dog-ears, or marks. Upper righthand corner pages lightly pinched. There is no bookplate or name of a prior owner. This is not a library book nor a remainder. The wraps are in very good condition (Creasing on back cover). 9 ¾ x 6 ¾, 84 pages, 10 ounces. XX [From the text] "The Two Teeth Site (39B F 204) is situated on the left, or northeast, bank of the Missouri River in Buffalo County, South Dakota, about three miles west of Fort Thompson, the administrative center of the Crow Creek Indian Reservation. The site lies on a minor terrace a few feet above the heavily wooded flood plain that, prior to inundation by the Big Bend Reservoir, formed an important element in the regional ecology. The area of occupation shows negligible relief, but it has a gradual slope, rising from 1365 feet above sea level at the riverward edge, to 1390 feet at the base of the terrace to the northeast. The Two Teeth Site is oval in plan, measuring approximately 1,700 feet from north to south. The Brule Landing Road divides the area into northern and southern parts and is a convenient reference for descriptive purposes. North of the road the unplowed gassy surface rises gently until it reaches the foot of a high terrace. To the north and northeast of the Two Teeth Site, on the surface of the high terrace is the Medicine Crow Site (39B F 2), excavated by the River Basin Surveys of the Smithsonian Institution. In Area A, three deeply buried lithic components were found and in Area B, there were three ceramic components. Area C held a component closely resembling the Two Teeth Site in content. The Smithsonian Institution also excavated mounds (39BF224 and 39BF270) farther to the southeast on the same terrace. In the area north of the road at the Two Teeth Site, the remains of at least two earth lodges, identifiable in the form depressions surrounded by raised rings, were found. Several small amorphous depressions and the rectangular foundation of a log cabin, associated with fragments of metal and glass, attest to the presence of reservation Dakota in modern times. The entire area from the north side of the road to the foot of the high terrace is crisscrossed with grass-grown wagon ruts dating from the extensive use of the box wagon as a means of transportation on the reservation. The area south of the road was planted in alfalfa at the time of excavation. There, the terrain slopes gently to a shallow swale, running roughly from east to west, where evidence of aboriginal occupation terminate.…
