Jemima Bessie Skea (1923-1996) was a Scottish writer of prose and poetry, inspired by her native Orkney Islands. Her reputation grew from her regular contributions to The Orcadian newspaper under the name Countrywoman. Her first book, A Countrywoman's Calendar, dealt with the natural background of Orkney. In the present book of essays she deals mainly with her own childhood in Shapinsay, and the things that happened and the stories that were told there. The book is staple-bound inside the original light green card covers with black titling on the spine and front cover. The book is in very good condition with some shelf wear to the covers and the spine is sunned. There are slight bumps visible from the staples binding the pages near the spine edge of the covers.
