Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. 5th or later Edition, Illustrated Edition. small 8vo., viii, 306pp., 12 engraved vignettes to text after drawings by E. Landseer, Sir A.W. Callcott, etc., bound in contemporary full olive green calf with decorated outer borders, gilt decorated spine with contrasting morocco label, slightly rubbed… on some extremities. A VG clean copy in a generally nice binding. Ex Libris A.M. Lambert with a neat presentation inscription to blank front free endpaper dated 1841. In 1814 Rogers made a tour on the Continent with his sister Sarah. He travelled through Switzerland to Italy, keeping a full diary of events and impressions, and had made his way to Naples when the news of Napoleon's escape from Elba obliged him to hurry home. Seven years later he returned to Italy, paying a visit to Byron and Shelley at Pisa. Out of the earlier of these tours arose his last and longest work, Italy. The first part was published anonymously in 1822; the second, with his name attached, in 1828. E. Landseer, Sir A.W. Callcott (ilustrador).

Decorative Hard Back. Condición: Fair. First Edition. Title page + 22 pages + 23 colour plates. Condition; Original decorative hardback binding including black, red, green & gilt embossed in Fair condition, with rubbing & some dampness staining. Contents Fair condition, a couple of minor pencil/crayon drawings/inscriptions to bla…nk pages, one plate detached with edge damage/nicks not affecting the plate (opposite each plate is a blank page), most text pages with some marks (some from a little bit colour seeping through from rear of plate, most colour plates good, some with minor edge marks. Only able to locate one other copy in the National Library of Wales, but is unhelpful as they do not list number of pages, plates or date. The only item of news is they list the illustrators as J. F Herring (John Frederick), 1795-1865.; Edwin Landseer Sir, 1802-1873. & E. T. Smith. Although only noticed one with E. T. Smith signed within plate, Undated but found it listed for sale in an ad in the Athenaeum in 1883, Warne's Excelsior Playmates series seems to be from the 1860's to 1890's, and as is often with this type of rare undated books, it could have been published and printed in the 1870s and advertised & held in stock by publishers and or bookshops for over 20 years until sold. But as so little on the net about this title, we cannot say if this book is complete or not, even the layout is not exactly the same throughout. So only one copy located in the National Library of Wales (not in BL). So not even sure if complete, not a good copy, this is just a very rare children's title, with only one copy listed on Google (in an institution) and no other copy for sale at time of listing. Size: 19 x 25cm. Aprox. John Frederick Herring, Sir Edwin Landseer, E. T. Smith (ilustrador).
