Añadir al carritoSoft cover. Condición: Good. Sent by a Mrs. Butterly of Pearse Park Dundalk. 4pp card with ornate Celtic designs. John Joseph O'Kelly joined Sinn Féin at its inaugural meeting on 5 November 1905. Following the 1916 Easter Rising, O'Kelly joined the Irish National League and became treasurer of the Irish National Aid and Voluntee…rs' Dependants' Fund for the relief of prisoners and their families. In February 1917 he was arrested and deported to England where he was interned without trial for several months. On his release O'Kelly was elected to the Provisional Committee of the newly merged Irish National League and Sinn Féin, thereafter called Sinn Féin. He was appointed editor of the influential Catholic Bulletinin 1911 and remained in that position until 1922. He cleverly changed the emphasis of the Bulletin and came out in favour of the Easter Rising of 1916. In the United Kingdom general election, 1918 he was elected as a Sinn Féin MP for Louth by 255 votes in what was the closest contest in Ireland in that election. O'Kelly took his seat in Dáil Éireann as a Sinn Féin Teachta Dála and was Leas-Cheann Comhairle (Deputy chairman) from 1919-21. He was Secretary for Education in the Government of the 2nd Dáil. From 1919 to 1923, he was President of the Gaelic League. He opposed the Anglo-Irish Treaty that was ratified by the Dáil in January 1922, and refused to accept the legitimacy of the Irish Free State established in December 1922. He and others maintained that the Irish Republic continued to exist and that the rump of the Second Dáil, composed of those anti-Treaty TDs who had refused to take their seats in what became the Free State parliament, was the only legitimate government for the whole of Ireland. In June 1922, he was elected to the Third Dáil for the constituency of Louth/Meath but abstained from taking his seat. In August 1923, standing as a Republican for the Meath constituency, he was defeated for an abstentionist seat in the 4th Dáil. He was again defeated in the Roscommon by-election of 1925, his last election attempt. After the resignation of Éamon de Valera as president of Sinn Féin in 1926, O'Kelly, who maintained an abstentionist policy towards Dáil Éireann, was elected in his place and remained in this position until 1931 when Brian O'Higgins took over the leadership. O'Kelly was hostile towards the 1937 Constitution of Ireland, claiming it was insufficiently supportive of Irish Republicanism and that the Constitution also did not require the President of Ireland to be of Irish birth.

Añadir al carritoAudio Book (DVD). Condición: Good. Each label has a Celtic cross. At the Centre of the cross is the word "Eire" & on the circular rim the words "Sinn Fein" These were originally issued by Sinn Fein over the period 1908 -1912. The idea behind them was that they would be used by supporters of the movement as publicity for the orga…nisation. They were stuck on correspondence - envelopes, letters etc. by people with Republican sympathies. While issued up to 8 years before the 1916 Rebellion they were used a lot around that time by those who supported the movement.

Original pamphlet-print of the Constitution and legal outline of Sinn Fein: "As approved by the Ard-Fheis, November 19th, 1950". Sinn Féin (English: "Ourselves" or "We Ourselves") is a left-wing Irish republican…political party active in both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. The original Sinn Féin organisation was founded in 1905 by Arthur Griffith. It took its current form in 1970 after a split within the party (with the other side becoming the Workers' Party of Ireland) and has historically been associated with the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA). Mary Lou McDonald has been party president since February 2018. Sinn Féin is the largest nationalist party in the Northern Ireland Assembly, and the joint-largest overall (alongside the Democratic Unionist Party); it had four ministerial posts in the most recent power-sharing Northern Ireland Executive. It holds seven of Northern Ireland's 18 seatsthe second-largest bloc after the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP)at Westminster, where it follows a policy of abstentionism, refusing to attend parliament or vote on bills. It is the third-largest party, and the largest party on the left, in the Oireachtas, the parliament of the Republic of Ireland. (Wikipedia).

Añadir al carritoFrom the papers of Sylvia and Robert Lynd. A scarce and historic document: copy in the NLI, and three on JISC (LSE, Oxford and BL, the latter also possessing a copy of the 'Fortieth Thousand'). On the cover 'Sinn Fein' is written without the accent on the 'e'; while the heading to p.5 has it with the accent. Cover carries a crud…e outline map of Ireland, crossed by two thick lines, with caption 'The Cross of Gold'. A frail survival, on discoloured and worn newspaper stock, with chipping to edges and dogeared corners. The bottom of the leaf carrying pp.3 and 4 (the last two pages of the three-page introduction by 'A. G.') has been torn away, accounting in the loss of about ten lines from each side. The text proper begins, on p.5: ' Sinn Fe in / At the First Annual Convention of the National Council, held in the Rotunda, on Tuesday, November 28th, 1905, under the Presidency of Mr Edward Martyn, Mr. Arthur Griffith proposed as the policy of the National Council: / "National self-development through the recognition of the duties and rights of citizenship on the part of the individual, and by the aid and support of all movements originating from within Ireland, instinct with national tradition, and not looking outside Ireland for the accomplishment of their aims."' Also included is second heavily-creased and torn set of the outer leaves of the pamphlet, i.e. the bifoliate carrying pp.1-2 and 31-2.
