Contemporary half calf over marbled boards, spines with hilt-decorated raised bands, contrasting green and red morocco labels, red sprinkled edges. Bookplates removed from front pastedown of each volume. Boards detached, spines becoming so, light spotting to endpapers and prelims, contents generally clean and crisp. Louis Simond left France during the Revolutionary period and spent twenty years in America before going to England where he resided from 1810-1811. He published an account of his residence in England in 1816 which was favourably received. The present work on Switzerland was first published in French the same year.

After the Restauration[sic], he repeatedly travelled in Switzerland between 1817 and 1819. In 1822 he published a travel account and an historical essay about the country.
