A Gemran-language catalog of an exhibition on Jewish life from January 12 to April 26, 1992 at the Berliner Festspiele building entitled "Jüdische Lebenswelten," or "Jewish Life." The Berliner Festspiele is an organization in Berlin that presents exhibits and festivals on a number of topics at their Berlin headquarters. For this exhibition, the pulled together artifacts and artworks from museums, libraries and private individuals from around world. The exhibit was divided into 25 rooms, each with a different focus. Translated, the room titles were: 1 - On the history of the Jewish people in antiquity; 3-5 - Religious foundations of Judaism; 6 - Ashkenaz - Middle Ages in Rhenish cities; 7 - Vilna; 8 - From Eastern Europe to Berlin; 9 - Berlin; 10 - Yemen; 11 - Morocco; 12 - Sefarad - Middle Ages in Spain; 13 - Ottoman Empire/Thessaloniki; 14-15 - Amsterdam; 16 - America; 17-18 - Israel; 19 - Larry Rivers - History of the Mazza; 20:1 - The Religious Word; 20:2 - Moses Mendelssohn and the Enlightenment; 20:3 - Tradition and change in Judaism; 20:4 - Heinrich Heine, Ludwig Börne, Rahel Varnhagen and Henriette Herz; 20:5 - Politics and Jewish Life; 20:6 - Teaching and Learning; 20:7 - The dawn of modernity: Berlin, Prague, Vienna, Warsaw; 20:8 - Shoah; 20:9 - National Language Hebrew; 20:10 - Jewish Self-understanding in American Literature; 20:11 - Autobiography. Each item in the room is described, and about every 4th or 5th item is illustrated, with both color and black & white photos. Following the room descriptions in the catalog are short sections on "Encyclopedia of Anti-Semitism" and on the Jewish Cemetery in Berlin. Text is entirely in German. 7 x 9½ inches, 755 pages.
