Remarkably, his only Oscar nomination came for Best Supporting Actor from his role as Lt. Walker in the 1945 film Story of G.I. Joe, directed by William Wellman, based on the books Brave Men and Here Is Your War by Ernie Pyle. Robert and Dorothy Mitchum were married for 57 years and lived together in Santa Barbara, CA. Dorothy passed away in April, 2014 at the age of 94. Their sons James Mitchum and Christopher Mitchum are actors, as is their grandson Bentley Mitchum. Robert MitchumÕs last film was the television biopic James Dean: Race with Destiny (1997) playing Giant director George Stevens.
