Soft cover. Condición: Poor. No Jacket. 2nd Edition. 112 pages (complete). In general poor to fair condition. No marked publication date but judging from the womens' hats and clinched waists we can assume this to be about '52/ '53/ '54. It should be remarked that the illustrations for all nations in Western Europe are photograph…ic. Those for the Soviet Union are propaganda shots, for all other Eastern Block countries illustrations are by drawing only! The book is scruffy and worn. The covers are worn, marked, creased, stained, stoically cheerful. The spine is secure, tenacious, very worn. The contents are worn about the edges. There are previous owner annotations to fore and aft. The contents are benign, amiable, comfortable against the binding. The pages are clear, clean, tidy and assured. fk. Hardcover. Condición: Fair. No Jacket. 149 pages text (complete) and 126 pages photographic illustrations (complete). In Afrikaans, English and some Dutch. A much owned and resolute copy. The boards are much worn and scuffed and marked. They are defiantly mild-mannered. Within, the text pages are most memorably illustrated with…Pierneef woodcuts. The text pages are elegant and generous. They are clean, clear, creamy. The photographic plates are less certain: the majority of these pages are loose. However, the pages themselves are clean and clear and benevolent. Despite the drawbacks this is a kindly, diligent and useful copy. fk. Ex library with some of the usual library markings. Embossed library stamp on title page. Decorative front cover with 75 in red and blue and…a three started illustration of a service decoration on the front cover. Clothe stripe at spine. Copy was removed from a library added stiff card front and back. Author's name penciled in on title page. and printed on page 41 The 289th Infantry regiment was activated on 15 April 1943 at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. The regiment was sent to the European in 1944 and participated in the Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace and Central Europe campaigns. It was inactivated on 23 November 1945 at Camp Patrick Henry, Virginia. THIS UNIT HISTORY WAS NOT FOUND IN DORNBUSH! Not located in Worldcat! Donald Serton of the 75th Division died in 1991. The material for this story has been collected by the writer from the men of Co. "L," 289th Inf. He has been with the company during the entire period it was overseas, has had the pleasure of knowing most of the men through personal contact, and has seen what they accomplished. The story is dedicated to our gallant company commander, the late 1st Lt. Thomas S. Eubank (from Wisconsin, KIA). He was a man whose character and leadership will always be an inspiration to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His going left a vacancy.men will always recall the days when they could see him at the head of the column, his M-3 slung over his shoulders, leading the company through thick and thin. The Battle of the Bulge, also known as the Ardennes Counteroffensive, was a major German offensive campaign on the Western Front during World War II which took place from 16 December 1944 to 25 January 1945. It was launched through the densely forested Ardennes region between Belgium and Luxembourg towards the end of the war in Europe. The offensive was intended to stop Allied use of the Belgian port of Antwerp and to split the Allied lines, allowing the Germans to encircle and destroy the four Allied forces and cause the Allies to negotiate a peace treaty in the Axis powers' favor. The "Bulge" was the largest and bloodiest single battle fought by the United States in World War II and the third-deadliest campaign in American history. Battle of the Colmar Pocket: The 75th Division entered the front lines on 31 January, between the U.S. 3rd and 28th Infantry Divisions. Attacking on 1 February, the 289th Infantry Regiment cleared Horbourg and the 290th Infantry Regiment advanced on Andolsheim occupying the town at 14:00 on 2 February. The same day, the 75th Division made diversionary attacks to cover the Allied drive on the city of Colmar, adjacent to the division's western sector. On 3 February, the 75th Division cleared the Forêt Domaniale and consolidated its gains the following day. Moving again on 5 February, the division overran Appenwihr, Hettenschlag, and Wolfgantzen. On 6 February, the 75th Division reached the Rhône-Rhine Canal south of Neuf-Brisach. This action brought a close to U.S. 75th Infantry Division operations in the Colmar Pocket. Battle for the Ruhr Pocket was a battle of encirclement that took place in April 1945, on the Western Front near the end of the second World War, in the Ruhr Area of Germany. Some 317,000 German troops were taken prisoner along with 24 generals. The Americans suffered 10,000 casualties including 2,000 killed or missing. Exploiting the capture of the Ludendorff Bridge at Remagen on 7 March 1945, the U.S. 12th Army Group under General Omar Bradley advanced rapidly into German territory south of Generalfeldmarschall (Field Marshal) Walter Model's Army Group B. In the north, the Allied 21st Army Group (Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery) crossed the Rhine in Operation Plunder on 23 March. The lead elements of the two Allied army groups linked up on 1 April 1945 east of the Ruhr to create a massive encirclement of 317,000 Germ.
