Bildausschnitt ca. 10 x 15,5 cm. Abgezogen von der Original-Kupferplatte der Ausgabe 1680.- Erstmals 1109 urkundlich erwähnt, wurde das Benediktinerstift Seitenstetten im Jahr 1112 durch die Edlen Reginbert von Hagenau und Udalschalk von Stille und Heft gegründet. 1480 erhielt der Ort durch Kaiser Friedrich III. das Marktrecht verliehen. Der Abt Caspar Plautz soll im Jahr 1621 das erste überlieferte Kartoffelrezept aufgeschrieben haben. Aber erst nach dem Dreißigjährigen Krieg und der Rekatholisierung gelang es Abt Gabriel Sauer (1648-1674), das Stift wirtschaftlich zu festigen und den Konvent religiös auf einen Höhepunkt zu führen. Auch eine große Bautätigkeit konnte nun einsetzen.
