Moving between ancient and modern sources, philosophy and theology, and science and popular culture, Sean McGrath offers a genuinely new reflection on what it means to be human in an era of climate change, mass extinction and geoengineering. Engaging with contemporary thinkers in eco-criticism, including Timothy Morton, Bruno Latour and Slavoj Zizek, McGrath argues for a distinctive role for the human being in the universe: the human being is nature come to full consciousness. McGrath's compelling case for a new Anthropocenic humanism is founded on a reverence for nature, a humanism that is not at the expense of nature, and a naturalism that is not at the expense of the human.

Collects the essays of James Bradley (1947 2012) for the first time, showcasing his speculative cosmology of the Trinity Reinvigorates the debate about the role and significance of speculative philosophy in the Anglo-American traditionReveals the depth and breadth of Bradley's philosophical thoughtPresented in chronological order, following the movement of Bradley's thoughtIncludes a preface by Peter Harris and a contextualising introduction by Sean McGrathThis collection of essays by James Bradley presents his unique vision: a speculative cosmology of the Trinity, drawing on the vast history of Western philosophy. This journey led him into an intensive study of a number of different thinkers, ancient and modern, including Plato, John Scotus Eriugena, Duns Scotus, Hegel, Schelling, Peirce, Whitehead and Collingwood.James Bradley was Professor of Philosophy at Memorial University, Newfoundland from 1988 to 2012. His work was a lifelong examination of themes in speculative metaphysics within a broad historical context. Throughout these investigations, Bradley remained focussed on a single project: the elaboration of the triadic structure of speculative logic, expressed in both Christian theology and more metaphysical terms. Bradley was convinced that he had discovered the key to ontology and the history of philosophy, theology and science in the logic of the Trinity.

Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: New. Ray L. Hart is one of the most radical and creative theologians active in contemporary speculative philosophical theology. Breaking on the scene with his immensely influential Unfinished Man in 1968, he published his magnum opus, God Being Nothing, in 2015.This volume advances critical consideration of Hart's theological thought. The nature of time, the meaning of personhood, the being of God, and the role of the imagination in Hart's work are discussed with clarity and erudition. Hart's deep rootedness in modern speculative theology, from Boehme to Schelling, comes to the fore. The wide scope and profound depth of Hart's thought have never been more evident.

Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: New. A defence of the rationality and rigour of the late Schelling's visionary philosophy of religionA major new effort to organise and evaluate Schelling's arguments for a Philosophy of Revelation and to demonstrate their importance for contemporary debates Finds in largely unexamined texts of the late Schelling new resources for critiquing rationalism, reductive naturalism, and posthumanism Will appeal to the many scholars in various fields working on political eschatology in the works of Benjamin, Taubes, Rosenzweig, Derrida, i ek, Moltmann and Levinas Schelling's positive philosophy has long been recognised as the historical root of Marxism, existentialism, and other central trends in continental philosophy, but its main argument has never been fully elaborated as a tenable philosophical strategy for thinking Christianity forward into its future. According to McGrath, Schelling's late turn to speculative theological realism (the positive) is neither fideistic nor arbitrary, but rather the consequence of the free decision of the philosopher who has soberly assessed the results of logic, nature-philosophy and historical-critical and systematic theology.
