Añadir al carritoA complete copy of the final, spectacular issue of No: Instant Artifact of the New Orderthe zine which ultimately provided the name for the No Wave movement. Sclavunos and his classmates at NYU founded the magazine to promote the activities of their band, Mimi & the Dreamboats, but they quickly became focused on covering the live scene at clubs around downtown, particularly the more abrasive bands at work. This final issue, an assemblage of xeroxes and ephemera both printed and in manuscript, includes the xeroxed pamphlets Donovan Reconsidered and Phil Dray's Drummers. The flexi- disc features "Well, Oh Well" by NNB and "We Like Boys Who Say No" by No Group. A very nice copy of an exceedingly rare issue. Xerox, offset, manuscript. An assemblage of 30 leaves, some stapled at corners, one hand-painted leaf, one leaf of ruled notebook paper with manuscript poem (hand-numbered 287 of 500), 3 pieces of printed ephemera, two side-stapled zines, including the flexi-disc in printed wrapper, with the original stamped envelope. Various sizes, but most 11 x 8 1/2 in. Very good, manila envelope with some tears and soiling, stray spots.

Añadir al carritoFirst edition. The second issue of the New York fanzine credited with giving the No Wave movement its name. Not to be confused with the LA magazine of the same name. [28] pp. Stapled wraps. 8.5 x 11". Fine, a little age-toned but in beautiful shape. NYU student Jim Sclavunos started this fanzine covering the burgeoning No Wave movement, which he himself contributed to mightily in Teenage Jesus and the Jerks, Red Transistor, Information, The Gynecologists, Devil Dogs, and 8 Eyed Spy. A brief stint in Sonic Youth preceded his joining Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and eventually releasing a solo album. This issue features Mars (arguably the quintessential No Wave band), Sclavunos's own The Gynecologists, The Cars (still a Boston New Wave band then, pronounced "cahs" as the author notes), Akron's now-forgotten Rubber City Rebels, and The Suicide Commandos. No Wave was primarily a film and music movement that adopted a more "difficult" approach to punk or new wave culture, feeling, as Lydia Lunch once put it, most punk was just "Chuck Berry on speed." Like Rock in Opposition but contemptuous of traditional musical artistry and trying too hard, No Wave fizzled out in the early '80s, some of its fire being bogarted and carried aloft by Sonic Youth.
