Paperback. Condición: Very Good. In the spring of 1999, Norm Schriever leaves his old life behind and backpacks around the world for a year, not returning to the US until the spring of 2000. Throughout his journeys he touches down in more than 20 countries in 6 continents, spanning 70,000 miles total, or the equivalent of almost three times around the equator. There is never a dull moment on this wild and irreverent adventure, whether Norm is evading armed carjackers in a high-speed chase in the barrios of Venezuela, exploring ancient wonders of the world like the pyramids, the Great Wall, and Machu Picchu, almost landing in a Bolivian jail for mistakenly being accused of cocaine trafficking, or witnessing the holiest sites on earth in Jerusalem. Along the way, Norm encounters a broad spectrum of human existence and experiences a blossoming of consciousness and spiritual growth that he never anticipated. What started out as a wild, raucous party trip evolves into a man's quest for his life's purpose in the world. Pushups in the Prayer Room: A Year Backpacking around the World is an honest, no-holds-barred account of that year-long odyssey around the globe. Norm's writing, which is enlightening, gritty, filled with self-deprecating humor, yet always authentic, picks you up and carries you along on that crazy journey.…

Paperback. Condición: Good. "I'd like to see any man do better than we did on this trip." - Alice BurkeIn 1916, Alice Burke and Nell Richardson embarked on a daring and unprecedented cross-country journey advocating for women's suffrage. Before the nineteenth amendment enshrined American women's right to vote in 1920, it was legal only in a few states. So trailblazing suffragists Alice and Nell loaded a Saxon automobile and embarked on a state-by-state campaign for women's voting rights. Long before the modern highway system streamlined car travel, Alice and Nell drove a grueling 10,700 miles over twenty-six weeks, traversing some of the roughest roads in America. Backed by the Saxon Motor Car Company--one of the original Detroit automakers--and fueled by their own unwavering spirits, Alice and Nell advocated for women's suffrage in every town along the way. Author Jeryl R. Schriever shares the remarkable story of the first women to ever drive across the country and back, paving the way for generations of women to follow.…

Añadir al carritoTrade Paperback. Condición: Very Good. 1976 Republication of 1940 Edition. 41 Pages. This is a 1976 Re-Publication of the 1940 Edition with a New Preface and Updated Biographical Notes. New Mexico and particularly Santa Fe, have long been focal points of interest in American history. The Indians, the Spaniards, Kearny, Fremont, Garrard, Billy the Kid, Kit Carson, Sister of Charity Blandina, Bishop Lamy, Bill Williams, Bartlett, Emory, and hundreds of other early travelers and inhabitants, provided the warp and woof of an exceptionally rich tapestry. New Mexico was admitted in the Union in 1912 and the 1920 census lists the total number of inhabitants at 360,350. The same year, the population of New York State was 10,385,227. The new museum flourished and was the anchor of one of the most prolific and exciting manifestations of art in America. This book of 1940 was the best proof of the usefulness of the venture. It was the brainchild of Dr. Edgar L. Hewett, then director of the Museum of New Mexico. It has been out of print for years and when we look at it now, we have somewhat the same feeling of loving interest that we might have for our graduation year book. …
