Full Leather Hardback. Condición: Very Good. First Edition Thus. 1946. First edition thus. 302pp., many full-page and in-text illustrations by Þorvaldur Skúlason and Gunnlaugur Scheving, and decorations by Asgeir Juliusson. Grettissaga, or Grettis saga Ásmundarsonar, is one of the Icelanders' sagas, detailing the life of Grettir… Ásmundarson, a bellicose Icelandic outlaw. It is considered one of the Sagas of Icelanders, which were written down in the 13th and 14th centuries and record stories of events that supposedly took place between the ninth and the eleventh centuries in Iceland. The author is unknown but it is believed that his story may have been based on a previous account of Grettir's life written by Sturla Þórðarson. Whoever the author was, the author shows an awareness of the Sagas of Icelanders tradition by making references to other sagas and borrowing themes from the larger cultural milieu of the Germanic peoples that appear independently in other texts like the Old English Beowulf. This edition has been edited by Halldór Kiljan Laxness (1902-1998), an Icelandic writer and winner of the 1955 Nobel Prize in Literature. The book is bound in the original black full leather boards with gold titling on the spine and boards. The case of the book is in very good condition with some expected scuffing to the leather on the boards and spine. The contents are tight and clean with a little scattered light foxing to some of the pages. There is no inscription. PLEASE NOTE: Extra postage will be required. Þorvaldur Skúlason, Gunnlaugur Scheving & Asgeir Juliusson (ilustrador).
