Octavo. 86pp. Original photo-illustrated gray quarter-cloth with white and black lettering on cover, black on spine, protected by modern mylar. With eighty-five photographs explained by S. Giedion. Publication to convey today's opinion, not the purpose of individual build…ings. Therefore the presentation takes details of several buildings and puts them into order as needed. Illustrated with b/w photographs of houses, plans and interiors by Le Corbusier, Jan Wils, Hans Scharoun, Mart Stam and others as well as photographs of ocean liners, the Eiffel Tower, etc. if necessary for the purpose of this publication, with photo credits. Text in German. Light wear along edges of binding and lightly rubbed. Previous owner's stamp on inside front cover.

Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Good to very good+ condition. First German edition. Octavo. 7 (1)pp., 64 plates, 6 (1)pp. Orange quarter cloth over original b/w photo-sillustrated paper boards, protected in original glassine. Pre- W.W.II photo essay on the so-called Jewish Ghetto of Vilna and its residents. Published as number 27 in the f…amous series of German photo books, Schaubücher. This version is printed with text in German and Hebrew, with an introduction by S. Chneour. Lithuanian photographer Moshe Raviv-Vorobeichic studied at the Bauhaus in the 1920s and at the Ecole de Photo Cine in Paris. Following his studies, he returned home and created this scarce prewar document. Early montage and double exposure techniques exemplified in his work. Photographic study of Jewish Vilna prior to the Holocaust. Photographic reproductions, some photo-montages of Jews at play, many buildings, walkways, stairs, and portraits. Captions in German and Hebrew. Martin Parr: The Photobook Vol. 1, page 130. Text in German and Hebrew. Front cover with small bump at lower edge, near foredge. Text pages with some foxing. Binding in overall good, interior in good, photos in very good+ condition. [WITH] A collection of 14 original b/w photographs from the same Vilna Ghetto Project by Moï Ver, originally taken circa 1928. 12 of the photographs are smaller sized, measuring on average, approximately 4 1/2 x 3", with some variation in the cut dimensions. There are also 2 larger images, one measuring 5 1/4 x 7 1/2" showing the roof of the Great Synagogue of Vilna and the largest showing the gate of the synagogue's courtyard, measuring 8 1/4x 11 1/2". Surprisingly none of these evocative and striking images of the Vilna Ghetto and its inhabitants were used ultimately used in the book, but many are quite similar to the images which did get used. These photographs are likely later prints made from the original negatives, and all contain the ink stamp of the acclaimed phtographer's studio in Tel Aviv, on the verso. The versos of the two larger images also include notes in pen in German, with one dated to 1928.

Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Very good. Octavo Format 7 6/8 x 5 1/8" and issue Nos. 18, 20, 32, 37, 38, 39, 41, 43 at 9 x 6 1/8". Original quarter cloth in various colors over photo-illustrated boards with the exception of issue 43, this bound in softcover. Initiated and edited by the art historian Emil Schaeffer. According to Heiting/…Jäger the series may have been designed by Wilhelm Friedrich Burger. Towards the end of 1930 the book format was slightly enlarged. Rare complete set including advertising material and ephemera. Photo-illustrated series of books on issues of interests of the time, including such topics as the revolutionary film in Russia, the new architecture and living conditions, the Zeppelin and x-rays but also popular topics like sports and the Olympics, film, dance and photography. Traditional culture is represented by works on Goethe and Wagner and a special issue on the Attic Greeks. Specialized issues treat topics like the Ghetto in Wilna, beauty in technology or body culture. The extensive number of photographs illustrating the volumes are printed on glossy paper with at times light coloration. The series is designed for the modern human being, introducing the world in pictures in an affordable format with introductions of known authors and photographers, e.g. Theodor Däubler, Egon Friedell, Adolf Behne, and others. The known photographers represented are Albert Renger-Patzsch, Walter Hege and M. Vorobeichic, among others, and architects from the top echelon of architecture of the time like Le Corbusier, Richard Neutra, Mart Stam, among others, are introduced as well. The heterogenious choice of subjects and pictorial material provides a representative spectrum of the work being done in photography and other artistic fields of the time around 1930. The collection contains an eight page photo-illustrated advertising leporello from the publisher and six printed order forms produced at different times of its publication. The proposed volumes numbered 16, 22, 34, 35, and 42 were never published. The 38 issues of the series did not always appear in the order of the numbers and the imprint may not correspond to the actual date of publication. Most of the volumes are in very good condition, with some issues rubbed or containing previous owner's names and some foxing of text pages. Includes one illustrated eight page folded leparello introducing the first twenty-five issues of Schaubücher and six postcards of the publisher to order Schaubücher issues. 1.
