Dust jackets rubbed with some stains, toning, and soiling; tears and shallow chips at edges; scuffing along spine and flap folds; Vol. I's front flap is price-clipped at its bottom corner. Boards have light staining and toni…ng; bumping at spine ends and board corners. Toning to endpapers; past owner's ink signature "Wm. E. Stone" at top right of each volume's front free endpaper recto. Bindings retain some crispness. VOLUME I THE FIGHT AT ODDS: Fifth printing, August 1954 (as stated upon copyright page). VOLUME II THE FIGHT AVAILS: First edition, first printing (per "First published 1954" statement upon copyright page); toning and stains to text block edges with latter shallowly affecting page margins. VOLUME III THE FIGHT IS WON: First edition, first printing (per "First published 1954" statement upon copyright page). The aforementioned ink signatures should be William Evans Stone V, aka Jack Stone, who was the nephew of Philip Avery Stone (1893-1967), the Oxford, Mississippi attorney who was a close friend and mentor to novelist William Faulkner. This set was acquired from the Meridian, Mississippi estate of a onetime journalist who attended Ole Miss from approximately 1968 to 1972 during which time he apparently purchased a number of books from Phil Stone's estate. Please note that this set has an approximate shipping weight of 5.5 pounds (2.49 kg) and may require additional postage for any postal class other than domestic Media Mail.
