Published on occasion of the Takuma Nakahira exhibition "Burn-Overflow" held at the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo. This extensive catalogue is organized into five chapters and includes many previously unpublished photographs. While examples of Nakahira's work from well know publications like 'Provoke' and 'For A Language to Come' are present, special attention is devoted to the importance of magazines and Nakahira's awareness of the ways and possibilities in which photographs were distributed. The book is profusely illustrated throughout with excellent reproductions of his work in magazine such as Asahi Camera, Asahi Journal, Asahi Graph, The Photo Image, Bijutsu Techo, Foto Critica, Gendaishi Techo, Kindai Kenchiku, among many others. The books also focuses on the period between 1975 and 1977, when Nakahira suffered an accident that left him with amnesia, and how it influenced his work, and includes images of exhibitions views of the source material displayed and arranged. "Burn-Overflow" contains essays an indepth introductory essay by curator Rei Masuda, as well as texts by Matthew S. Witkovsky, Akihito Yasumi, and Shino Kuraishi. This is an incredible volume and a necessary title for anyone interested not only Nakahira; work, but this era in Japanese photography where the magazine held such a prominent place in the dissemination of artist work.
