One outstanding feature of this book, which makes it good business reading and more than just a well-done company history is this: The way that Holman is presented as a group of distinct businesses, under the umbrella of one firm. A few examples include the conditions in Americ…a during World War II, when the Government took over automaking capacity for military use. Holman simply introduced used car sales and "kept on driving." Another example is the introduction of "upfitting," or taking a stock vehicle (or vehicles) and setting it/them up to be immediately useful to the customer, while at the same time (presumably) increasing profit margin and more closely bonding the customer to the company. Still another example is the breaking-out of the powertrain business, taking used Ford engines and rebuilding them at a profit, while leveraging existing human and physical plant resources. ALL of these things and more give the business manager or business student inspiring ideas for flexible thinking and survival and success. Beyond those things, the volume is essentially a glitzy, durable, public-relations piece. And a good one it is, too! Hardbound, 216 pages, in a large format, and filled with color photographs and text on a glossy stock. Condition is excellent, though this copy does have the kinds of wear spots to the exterior that one might expect from a two-year-old volume that has seen some circulation. Timothy J.
