Well-kept copy of this Shirley Temple book from 1935. Light golden yellow color illustrated softcover with the famous child star, Shirley Temple, on every other page, in movie costumes, with a nursery level story accompanying each of the eight large full page color plates. Temple was 5 years old when this was produced. Very Good condition. A few minor nicks to the edges, otherwise in excellent condition. Cloth Book. A cloth book with the entire 1770 version of the folk song/nursery rhyme "Who Killed Cock Robin." In 1899, the Saalfield Publishing Co. introduced Saalfield's Muslin Books, children's books printed on cloth. As the back cover states: "They may be washed / and the colors will not run / a child can chew them / and have lots of fun." They became very popular with middle class and wealthy families because of their durability. "Cock Robin" was one of the earliest books issued by the company; the Wolfsonian Library dates it circa 1900. Silkscreen-printed cloth sheets, folded and sewn at the spine; unpaginated [14 pages]; color illustrations throughout; 8 x 8.5 inches. Condition: Very Good with light soiling throughout, staining to the fore edge of the first page (possibly foxing), a couple of small spot stains elsewhere, and light fraying to the edges of the front.
