A small isolated massif dominating the Sa?ne valley, a mound bearing witness to Jurassic deposits, rich in historical vestiges, the Mont d Or in Lyon has always attracted the attention of naturalists and archaeologists. This book sets out to trace the stages of its formation, those of its geological discovery and the current state of our knowledge in this field. The authors invite you on a walk, which will lead you from stratum to stratum, from the ancient base to the most recent terrains, evoking the first dinosaurs, the countless marine animals that lived in the Jurassic seas and. the mammoths that the first inhabitants of our region. This route, which is also a journey through time, leads us quite naturally, as the geological constitution of the massif has conditioned many other aspects, to take an interest in the current flora and fauna, the way of life of the inhabitants over the past centuries, to the architectural remains and the exploitation of quarries. It is also an opportunity to pay tribute to all our predecessors who, from the 16th century to the present day, have written about the Mont d Or and to ask ourselves about the future of this small massif which we must preserve. natural and built heritage. No comprehensive work or synthesis exists on this subject. The number of articles and books dealing with Bajocian ammonites is impressive, but none of them considers all genera and species. There is an obvious reason for this: the no less impressive number of taxa described by successive authors (more than 250 genera and 1,350 species). Also, my work, while providing an overview on the subject, obviously cannot go as far as the description of each of the species and sticks to the description of the genera, as Arkell did in 1956. This book presents an update of our knowledge and illustrates each of the genera by one or more characteristic species on 78 plates. These illustrations include many holotypes or lectotypes. The work is therefore rather designed as a directory giving an overview of the richness of Bajocian ammonites and making it possible to guide further research, thanks to a bibliographical list and an important index. The Bajocian is a stage present in a large number of countries belonging to all continents. It was of course first spotted and described in Western Europe, the stratotype designated by d Orbigny being in Normandy. This stratotype, imprecise as regards its lower limit, was completed by sections surveyed in Portugal, Scotland and, for its upper part, in the Alpes de Haute Provence. The very precise biostratigraphic framework established in these regions is no longer valid in the rest of the world, where other scales have had to be developed, in particular in the Circum-Pacific regions and the boreal domain, where there is a totally distinct endemic fauna from the Upper Bajocian. The fauna of all these regions is of course taken into account in this work. The classification adopted here takes into account the most recent contributions and it appears that the genera of Bajocian ammonites, all derived (apart from the Phylloceratidae and the Lytoceratidae) from the Aalenian Hammatoceratidae and Erycitidae, can be grouped into four superfamilies: Hammatoceratoidea, Haploceratoidea, Stephanoceratoidea and Perisphinctoidea. However, the distribution of families and genera in these taxa varies according to the authors, as does the distribution of species in the genera. Lyon. D?dale Editions. 299 pp., 78 b/w plates, br. 4 [upper front cover slightly dented due to heavy treatment during shipping].…

With this new work, Louis Rulleau offers us the first exhaustive study on two families of ammonites from an important documentation, dispersed in a considerable number of articles and works, not always easy to access for the majority of collectors and enthusiasts. The established inventory made it possible to list 28 genera and subgenera and 158 species of Hammatoceratidae and 18 genera and subgenera and 85 species of Erycitidae in the North-West European and Tethyan regions. If a certain number of species had been treated in a previous volume published in 1996, many others remained to be described. To illustrate this monograph, the author has prepared 87 plates, some of which include original representations of old works. Lyon. D?dale Editions. 285 pp., 23 figs, 87 b/w plates, br. 4. …

I. With this work, devoted to the base, the Trias and the first three stages of the Lias, a work which completes the first volume, previously published under the same title (but which dealt with the upper Lias and the Dogger), the amateur of Paleontology will have access to a complete panorama of the Lyon region. The first work was a great success, requiring a second edition. The approach used for the second volume is the same. After a brief overview of the geology and mineral resources of the primary, Triassic and Liassic terrains, a chapter is devoted to biostratigraphy and another to the systematic study of the fauna collected. Many plates illustrate the most characteristic fossils. If ammonites still have the best part, a more important place has been reserved for accompanying faunas, and in particular for bivalves on which it is difficult to obtain documentation. In conclusion, this book is essential for all those who, having acquired the first book, wish to complete their documentation on the Lyon region, while specifying that the fauna described is found throughout the rest of France and more generally throughout the province. Northwestern Europe. Above all, it provides data on stages that are less well known than those studied in volume I. Lyon. D?dale Editions. 229 pp., 25 figs, 57 b/w plates, br. 4.…

A new book on a family of ammonites by two specialists of the genre! Dactylioceras and their allies are ammonites well known to collectors. They constitute a bushy and complex family that has given rise to numerous works and, often, divergent, even contradictory opinions. However, they had never been studied in their entirety; it is done with this synthesis on the Dactylioceratinae of the Toarcian. In this work, the ammonite collector will find all the elements to determine the 170 species and 22 genera of Dactylioceratidae of the NE European and Mediterranean Provinces. The others will also find their account with regard to the great stratigraphic value of these ammonites. Lyon. D?dale Editions. 245 pp., 44 figs, 46 b/w plates, br. 4.…

The Lyon region, rich in particularly fossiliferous Jurassic outcrops, has always aroused the interest of collectors and researchers, particularly in the 19th century when the iron mines and numerous quarries offered a vast field of research. New opportunities offered by the exploitation of the Lafarge quarries and the observation of occasional outcrops in other sectors of the Lyon region have made it possible to broaden our knowledge and to clarify the stratigraphic position of many species. Most of the book is devoted to the description and representation of the fossil fauna of the Upper Liassic and the Middle Jurassic of the Lyons region, and in particular the ammonites, so numerous and so varied in the area studied. Among them, several species have been recently created or are unpublished in the vicinity of Lyon. The most representative elements of the accompanying fauna are also presented. Lyon. The Pays des Pierres Dor?es, in Bas Beaujolais, conceals a treasure. It is buried for the most part under this fine building material, in other layers which geologists call Lower Aalenian or Toarcian. It s a treasure. Leafing through this book and its superb plates is enough to convince yourself of this: they are in particular some of the most beautiful and diversified fossils that can be found on the same site. They have a triple power of seduction. They arouse curiosity, whether that of the layman or that of the paleontologist. They respond to our need for beauty and authenticity. They invite us to meditate on time, duration, evolution, and on the human condition which is put into perspective. This book reveals in detail the marine animals that populated this geographical area some 200 to 166 million years ago, as found and studied by fervent amateurs relayed by competent scientists. It also presents the geological series in which their fossils are recorded, and the mineral crystallizations that accompany them. This exceptional openness to the past and to aspects of nature that usually escape our attention is offered to us by a site, the Val d Azergues, and more particularly by the quarry exploited for sixty years by the Lafarge company. It was also necessary for the operator not only to tolerate but, what is more, to promote the research that led to all these discoveries. We can speak of real collaboration, materialized by an Association in close ties with the company. The first part of this book sets out the procedures for choosing the site, then the operation and management of the quarry, where a concern for the environment, unique in France for this type of site, is evident. The reader will appreciate the wide panorama offered to him, which, by linking nature, culture, science and technology, underlines both the diversity and the continuity of the registers in which the human presence manifests itself. The Grammoceratinae subfamily was the subject of a first in-depth study by Gabilly (1976), using material from the Toarcian stratotype region, then a thesis work by Rulleau (1989) on the ammonites of the Lyon region. In addition to their purely regional character, these works were either incomplete, Gabilly having considered only part of the genera attached to the subfamily, or unpublished in the case of Rulleau s thesis. In addition, many subsequent works, either in France or abroad, have provided new data on this group of ammonites and its worldwide distribution. In the NW European domain, the main trunk, represented by the Pseudogrammoceras and derived from the Phymatoceratinae, continues until the extinction of the phyllum, by the Phlyseogrammoceras and the Hudlestonia. From this line, several lateral branches will successively detach: the Grammoceras first, then the Esericeras which give rise to the Pseudolillia and finally the Gruneria. Podagrosites occupy a special place, which raises the problem of their origin. At the species level, new forms have been described, just as we have been able to discuss the probable membership or otherwise of the subfamily of Mediterranean or American species. Lyon. D?dale Editions. 292 pp., num. figs, 66 b/w plates, br. 4.…

Añadir al carritoThe abundance and diversity of ammonites from the Upper Toarcian and Lower Aalenian in numerous deposits in Western Europe have enabled the in-depth study of two subfamilies: the Dumortieriinae and the Leioceratinae. The almost imperceptible transition from one to the other allows them to be grouped in the same family, that of the Graphoceratidae, a family which therefore brings together, alongside the Hammatoceratidae, almost all of the ammonites from the terminal Toarcian (Pseudoradiosa and Aalensis zones) and the Aalenian. This study also attempted to present the numerous species created in each genus, gathered in groups sharing both common morphological characters and the same stratigraphic position. Paleogeographically, it appears that this group of ammonites is mainly confined to the NW European province and much less represented in the Mediterranean province, otherwise on its margins (Hungary, North Africa, etc.). The systematic position of this group, however, remains debated: the genus Tmetoceras is placed according to the authors, either in a subfamily of the Tmetoceratinae, attached to the Graphoceratidae, which is the option retained in this work, or in an independent family of Graphoceratidae which can also include the genus Catulloceras from which the genus Tmetoceras derives, or even the genus Dumortieria. This work completes the series of books already published on the ammonite fauna of the Toarcian and Lower Aalenian. It follows the work on the Hildoceratidae, the Hammatocertidae, the Dactylioceratidae, the Phymatoceratidae, the Grammoceratidae, the Phylloceratidae and the Lytoceratidae. Lyon. Añadir al carritoThe lithostratigraphic unit of the Lower Lias has yielded a rich ammonite fauna from which more than 200 genera were created by successive authors. The first inventory of these genera, exhaustive for the time, was carried out by Arkell in the Treatise on Invertebrate Paleontology (1957); this work was revised by Howarth in 2013, in an update of this treatise, with regard to Jurassic ammonites. However, these authors limited themselves to a summary description of all these genera, without listing the species assigned to them. It is therefore necessary to refer to a multitude of different publications to find this information.__This work does not aim to provide a detailed study of all the genera of the Lower Lias, but provides an inventory and classification of these genera and the species assigned to them, illustrating them on 45 photographic plates, with another 12 plates of accompanying fauna. This inventory is not limited to European faunas alone, but also lists those from the rest of the world, highlighting their affinities with Tethyan faunas.__This will be an indispensable work for collectors and palaeontologists.__Le Lias inf?rieur a livr? une riche faune d?ammonites ? partir de laquelle plus de 200 genres ont ?t? cr??s par les auteurs successifs.
