Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Good. No Jacket. First Edition. The Oglethorpe Book of Georgia Verse, edited by Thornwell Jacobs, Mary Brent Whiteside, and James Edward Routh, is a hardcover first edition published by Oglethorpe University Press in 1930. This book is bound in green cloth with copper spine lettering. It is in Good condition, with some typical wear from age. The corners and spine ends show wear, and although the binding remains square and tight, the front hinge is beginning to crack. The interior pages are clean and unmarked, with no significant signs of wear. The book contains 512 pages, with an introduction (xlviii) offering context to the poetry collected within. As a former library copy, it has minimal library markings. This book is an excellent choice for collectors of early 20th-century American poetry or Oglethorpe University history. Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. Spanning from ancient history to the time of Spanish conquest, this book offers a riveting journey through the rise and fall of the Aztec and Mayan city of Tollan. The author weaves together archaeological discoveries with mythic tales and historical accounts to paint a vivid tapestry of this once-great civilization. This book delves into the grandeur of Tollan, its complex social structure, and the reign of Quetzal, a revered king who attempted to reform the city's decadent ways. Through the lens of a compelling cast of characters, including a wise oracle, a cunning prince, and a fearless warrior, the author explores themes of leadership, ambition, and the struggle between light and darkness. As the glory of Tollan wanes under the rule of the treacherous Tezca, this book delves into the cycle of societal decline, the dangers of unchecked ambition, and the resilience of the human spirit. Ultimately, it leaves us with a profound reflection on the transient nature of power and the enduring legacy of a civilization lost to time. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. In this deeply evocative historical novel set in ancient Mesoamerica, we accompany Quetzal, a wise and valiant leader of the thriving city of Tollan. However, the city's prosperity is put to the test when Tezca, an ambitious and cunning prince, returns from exile bent on seizing power. As tension brews between Quetzal and Tezca, the author explores timeless themes of ambition, betrayal, and the struggle between progress and tradition. The novel's vivid descriptions of pre-Columbian culture and the epic battles between Quetzal's forces and the invading Nahuatl people add to the richness of this thought-provoking tale. Ultimately, the author's depiction of the fall of Tollan carries a poignant reminder of the fragility of human civilizations and the enduring power of legacy. Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book reviews and analyzes the traditional theory that the epic poem Beowulf is a composite text, made up of diverse, possibly contradictory, sources. The author disputes this theory, examining the poem as a unified whole and arguing for the coherency of its structure and ideas. The author draws upon external, comparative evidence, examining repetitions, contradictions, irrelevancies, and gaps in the narrative, themes common to Anglo-Saxon poetry, and the influence of Christian and pagan sources. This book shows that seeming inconsistencies stem from the idiosyncrasies of Anglo-Saxon poetic style and that the presence of Christian and pagan elements does not indicate multiple authorship. It concludes that Beowulf is not a cobbled-together text but a singular work of great depth and thematic unity, reflecting the cultural milieu of Anglo-Saxon England. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
