Añadir al carritoBrossura. Condición: new. A cura di Rosa Barovier Mentasti, Cristina Tonini, Sara Emanuele e Silvia Ferucci.Trento, 2025; pp. 248, cm 21,5x28. Libro.

The International Conference "Ultraviolet Properties of Evolved Stellar P- ulations" held in Puerto Vallarta, M' exico on April 16-20, 2007, is the s- ond "New Quests in Stellar Astrophysics" event, sponsored by the Instituto ' Nacional de Astrof' ?sica, Optica y Electr' onica (INAOE) and the University of Guadalajara(U.deG.).In2001weorganizedthe?rstmeetingaimedatstre- ing the importance of stellar physics to understand the properties of stellar systems at di?erent scales. We have now focused on the ultraviolet interval to review our current knowledge on the properties of evolved stellar populations. Theconferencerepresentedauniqueopportunitytocollectanup-to-dateview of the outcomes from various satellites, from the long-lived International - traviolet Explorer to current facilities, such as the Galaxy Evolution Explorer. This fresh panorama will undoubtedly impact on the preparation of planned ultraviolet space missions, such as the World Space Observatory and the - traviolet Imaging Telescope. The conference was also motivated by the recent access to the rest frame UV light of distant red galaxies, gained through large optical facilities. This driveway has derived in a renewed interest on the stars that presumably d- inateorhaveimportante?ectsontheintegratedUVcharacteristicsofevolved nearby systems. The conference intended to convene scientists interested in some of the main issues associated with the ultraviolet properties of old p- ulations. Nearly 60 participants from 10 countries reviewed and discussed, through about 50 oral and poster presentations, the relevant aspects that - bracedtopicsfromatomicphysicstogalaxiesintherelativelyyoungUniverse. This book presents an up-to-date collection of reviews and contributed articles in the field of ultraviolet astronomy. Its content has been mainly motivated by the recent access to the rest frame UV light of distant red galaxies, gained through large optical facilities. This driveway has derived in a renewed interest on the stars that presumably dominate or have important effects on the integrated UV properties of evolved systems of the nearby and faraway Universe. The topics included in this volume extend from the fresh spectroscopic analyses of high redshift early-type galaxies observed with the 8-10m class telescopes to the fundamental outcomes from various satellites, from the long-lived International Ultraviolet Explorer to current facilities, such as the Galaxy Evolution Explorer. This is one of the few volumes published in recent years devoted to UV astronomical research and the only one dedicated to the properties of evolved stellar populations at these wavelengths. This contemporary panorama will be an invaluable resource in the preparation of the next planned space missions, such as the World Space Observatory and the Ultraviolet Imaging Telescope. FTD may take away speech and language, social skills and ethical judgement, wishes and will, empathy and emotions; it may also impair motor functions. FTD may affect men and women in midlife or during old age leading tothe demolition of the uniqueness of the human mind. In the last decade of the 20thcentury and in the first two decades of the 21stcentury, progress in the understanding of clinical, neuropathological, biochemical, and genetic aspects of FTD has accelerated. The novel awareness about FTD has directed young generations of researchers toward the study of this complex group of disorders. This Volume has been formulated with the participation of some of the leading scientists who have contributed to the development of knowledge in the clinical and basic science arenas. It captures the current central elements thatare relevant to an up-to-date understanding of causes and pathogenesis of multiple forms of FTD.The volume is an opus that represents a distillation of the work of many scientists and addresses the current directions in the study of one of the most complex groups of diseases. In view of its structure, the book could also be used as a textbook, that offers both a broad and deep analysis of major areas in FTD.This book, planned by the International Society for Frontotemporal Dementias, is distinctive as it opens a window to a wide landscape about the biology of FTD.Thus, the book represents a moment of reflection on the present state of our knowledge of FTD and a collective vision toward scientific progress. The authors of each chapter share their knowledge and vision aimed at reducing the suffering which is caused by FTD.
