Includes his well known song, 'The Lum Hat Wantin' The Croon', which was popular amongst Scots troops in the First World War, and sung at the Siege of Ladysmith. He served with the Royal Army Medical Corp during the Great War, and was highly decorated. The Auld Doctor and Other Poems and Songs in Scots, by David Rorie M.D. Published by Constable & Company Ltd., London. Third impression of January 1921 - first printing in November 1920. A very good dark green cloth hardback with blind stamped thistle roundel and gilt titles to cover. Bumped to extremities. In a poor, but scarce, dustjacket - spine is missing and edges are frayed with marginal tears. Covered with a protective, removable, clear plastic wrap. Some offsetting to endpapers. Soundly bound. Text is bright and clean throughout. With some rough cut page edges, as issued. Small marginal nibbled loss to lower edge of dedication page. Text in English / Scots. Prelims + 61pp. Weight: approximately 160g (unpacked). Dimensions: Approximately 210mm tall x 147mm wide x 10mm deep.

Bruised. Mull showing slightly at front hinge, loss to top corner of dedication page, a few fox spots. Flat-signed in black pen to title page. In the original dust jacket: rubbed, extensive taping, small losses to extremities. Good/ fair. The doctor-poet and Scots folklorist David Rorie (1867-1946) is best known for 'The Lum Hat wantin' Croon'. He was a colliery surgeon and his rural locale of Aberdeenshire provided ample material for his popular poems and songs.
