El tópico consiste en describir a los dioses celebrando una asamblea en el Olimpo, y constituye un recurso narrativo que les hace intervenir en el argumento de las diferentes obras. Se trata de una escena típica recurrente que posee una estructura y unos rasgos distintivos bien diferenciados, repetidos desde sus orígenes con pequeñas variaciones pero de forma perfectamente reconocible. Dos líneas maestras se reconocen en el uso del motivo: su tradicional presencia en el género épico, y su posterior reescritura en clave satírica y paródica. Die Analysen widmen sich Homer, den Homerischen Hymnen, Hesiod, Stesichorus, Pin-dar, Euripides, der Batrachomyomachia, Euphron, Naevius, Ennius, Lucilius, Cicero, Vergil, Horaz, Ovid, Seneca, Silius Italicus, Valerius Flaccus, Statius, Apuleius und Lukian von Samosata. Der Topos besteht aus einer Beschreibung der Götter, die sich im Olymp versammeln, und stellt ein narratives Verfahren dar, das in die Handlung eines beliebigen Werkes eingefügt werden kann. Es handelt sich um eine typische, häufig wiederkehrende Szene mit einer typischen Struktur und vielen charakteristi-schen Merkmalen, die schon von ihrem Ursprung an mit leichten, aber dennoch er-kennbaren Abwandlungen immer wieder aufgegriffen wird.
