Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Very Good. First Edition. 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 238 pages; [SIGNED] 1941 J. B. Lippincott Co. HC 1st edition. Snugly bound in original green cloth with titles stamped in relief to a yellow panel on spine. Contents clean and very neat, with no marks of any kind. Publisher's orange topstain remains bold and uniform. Illustrated with pictorial endpapers and numerous black-and-white photographs on glossy stock, documenting Toto's growth from a tiny infant to a powerful adult gorilla. Signed on the title page by Roger Conant, who contributes a substantial, nearly twenty-page introduction. At the time of publication, Conant was serving as Curator of the Philadelphia Zoo, and was already a leading figure in American herpetology and public zoological education. His extended Introduction lends not only scientific weight but institutional context to what is otherwise a quiet, personal accountdocumenting one of the more unusual episodes of primate domestication in mid-20th-century America. Uncommon. VG++.
